First Strawberry Blossoms

Happy strawberry plant with an extra early bloom

Yesterday I noticed the first couple blossoms in my front strawberry patch, and then later I noticed that M's row of strawberries at the community garden is blooming, as well.  Hooray!  We've heard the strawberries will be plentiful this year because of the mild winter and early spring, and I have to say my strawberry patch looks really happy.  If I remember correctly I think this means we'll have berries around the last week of April, or the first week of May.

Last year the strawberry patch ended up largely underwater for the month of April because of all the rain (see the pic in Things I Would've Blogged About Last Week).  I hope that won't be the case this year, or the berries will be ruined.  So far I think this spring has been drier, but I'd still like to get a small rain barrel for the gutter that drains next to my front door, to keep front dumping so much water right there at once.

  1. OH YEAH!!! And how convenient that you have a little helper so close to the ground to help you grab the berries. Hopefully a few of them end up in a bucket instead of his mouth.

  2. He is already looking for the berries occasionally on his way from the door to the car!
