Yesterday I sowed the first seeds of 2012: lettuce (looseleaf and romaine) and spinach. Usually I direct-seed them in the low tunnel, but M at the community garden starts most of the plants in his plot elsewhere and transplants them. His greens are beautiful and always well ahead of the pack, so I'm going to try it this year. Once they're good-sized I'll move them to the low tunnel fairly quickly so I can have the space for all the things that need to be planted in the next few weeks.
Note to self: It took pretty much a whole day to wet the seed-starting mix.
