2012 Plan is Up!

N is a very nice husband.  I have been frustrated to no end trying to post my garden layouts online, so he made a Mathemattica program that let's me draw up my garden to scale and then makes a neat little file that's just the right size for my blog pages.  Isn't he sweet?  Anyway, witness my (his) triumph: 2012 Garden Plan.  The grid scale is about 6 inches.  This is the third revision of the garden plan already, and I haven't yet done a plan for the home garden, so...subject to change!

  1. Nice! That's a lot of garlic!! Also, why do peas and peppers appear in two different spots? Is this in case one set gets a transmittable fungus or something, then maybe the others will remain unharmed?

  3. Oh, Ellie, you're always keeping me honest...truthfully that whole patch isn't garlic, because it was planted in the fall and the boundaries of that bed got extended a bit since then. When the garlic starts growing again I'll go measure how much empty space there is at the end of each row - about a foot or two, I think. But not to worry, we have more garlic planted at home!

Oh, and we just really like peas and peppers. Doubtless lots of peas will be planted at home, too; I bought several pounds each of snap and shelling peas.

  4. @Susan - I have seen other websites commenting about this type of potato growing, where soil gets piled up and up and up and the plant keeps adding more potatoes. Enough that I think it probably works, at least sometimes. I'm just confused about where the plant gets all the extra energy to make all those extra spuds, especially since it's also having to constantly add vine and leaves. Let me know how it works out!
