
As you can see above, my second round of strawberries has come in! R was quite excited to be able to pick them on his way out to the car. They're a little on the small side this year, though, even for the second round.

As you can kind of see in the first picture, the leaves are still suffering from a fungal attack. I wonder if this is the reason for the small size of the berries? Last year I did give them a good feeding of coffee grounds mid-season, and we had a lot of rain, so I suppose either of those could be the difference this year.
I think I'm going to cut off all the plants above the crown and see if that gets rid of the fungus.
Why do you feed them coffee grounds? Does that help? Should I put them in my potted vegetable plants?
ReplyDeleteI fed them coffee grounds as a cheap fertilizer. Probably regular fertilizer is better, as it is more balanced and may contain more micronutrients, but the coffee grounds were free and I had them on hand so I thought, "Why not?"
