I have a plethora of purple and white irises in my yard. Here is one of the earliest bloomers in action.

Irises really impress me with how easy they are to care for. These were planted when we bought this house and I never do anything for them - no fertilizer, no digging, no watering, nothing! Often I chop off a leaf or two from the ones at the edge when I mow the lawn - they don't seem to mind a bit. A neighbor lady told me to cut them down to 6-8 inches after they are done blooming because it looks "more tidy". I tried it, but I think I like the foliage better this way.
I'm not really sure whether or not I like rhododendrons, but the flowers are pretty.

Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteYour rhododendrons are such a striking color! I don't think I have ever seen such a deep red-violet color.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! You can't tell in the picture, but I think the leaves are a little chlorotic. Maybe the soil isn't acidic enough and that causes the striking flower color?
